G3C Project Team
This project has been led by Kathleen Calzone, MSN, RN, APNG, FAAN and Jean Jenkins, PhD, RN, FAAN, working together to further nursing competency in genetics and genomics since 1995. They co-chaired the effort to develop the Essentials of Genetic and Genomic Nursing (2006, 2009), which define the minimum genetic/genomic competency expected of every registered nurse regardless of their academic preparation, clinical role or specialty. Karen Greco, PhD, RN, ANP-BC joined the G3C project team in October 2009. This curriculum resource project was a key recommendation that arose from the 2006 Essential Competency Strategic Planning Meeting.
Kathleen Calzone, MSN, RN, APNG, FAAN, a national leader in nursing genetics/genomics and a Senior Nurse Specialist (Research) at the National Cancer Institute is the Director for this project. Ms. Calzone is one of about 30 nurses nationally who have been credentialed by portfolio by the Genetic Nursing Credentialing commission as an Advanced Practice nurse in Genetics. She is nationally known for her work in nursing genetics/genomics competencies and has vast experience in research studies and publication of results. Ms. Calzone has a sustained body of work in the translation of genetic/genomic technology into practice and genetic/genomic nursing education.
Jean Jenkins, PhD, RN, FAAN is a Senior Clinical Advisor at the National Human Genome Research Institute in the Genomic Healthcare Branch and is the Co-Director on this project. Dr Jenkins is nationally known for her experience using stories for the purposes of nursing education. Her book, Nursing Care in the Genomic Era: A Case Based Approach (2005) utilizes real stories as an educational strategy. She coordinated the development and consensus of the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG) competencies and with Ms. Calzone the Essential Nursing Competencies and Curricula Guidelines for Genetics and Genomics (2006; 2009).
Karen Greco, PhD, RN, ANP-BC is a Nurse Specialist (Research) at the National Cancer Institute, Genetics Branch. She is nationally and internationally known for her leadership in advancing genomic nursing practice and education. Since 2009 Dr. Greco has co-chaired the effort to develop The Essential Competencies in Genetics and Genomics for Nurses with Graduate Degrees. Through the International Society of Nurses in Genetics she led the development of Genetics/Genomics Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice (2007), a collaboration with the American Nurses Association. Dr. Greco is also a founding member of the Genetic Nursing Credentialing Commission.

Since 1994, d’Vinci has developed top-quality web and eLearning applications for a national client base. d’Vinci has also provided its expertise for several other National Institutes of Health projects including: The Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms, The Genomic Careers website, The Genetics/Genomics Competency Center website (G2C2), The Protecting Human Research Participants (PHRP) Course, as well as other courses for the National Institutes of Health.
